It’s going to be quiet around Ottawa on Monday, as people either prepare for or recover from a turkey dinner and many businesses and services go dark for Thanksgiving.
Government service centres are closed for the holiday, including Ottawa City Hall and its seven service centres. The Ottawa courthouse on Elgin Street is also closed.
Mail isn’t being delivered and banks aren’t open on Monday as well.
The only place waste is being collected on Thanksgiving is garbage pick-up for multi-unit residential buildings. Recycling for those buildings and garbage, recycling and green bin pickup for homes is being pushed back a day for everyone.
OC Transpo will repeat its schedule from the day before, running a Sunday schedule on Monday.
The Rideau Centre in downtown Ottawa will be open for shopping from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the holiday, while Place d’Orleans, Bayshore and St. Laurent shopping centres are closed.
LCBO and Beer Stores will also be locked up, except for LCBO agency stores in areas too remote to host a full outlet.
The Ottawa Public Library and related services will be closed and back to regular hours Tuesday, as will city-run child care centres.
Many recreation facilities will be open, but classes may be called off. The city says to contact their facility to confirm what’s on.
