OC Transpo management says bus service is back to normal Wednesday after more than 50 buses went out-of-service earlier this week, causing two days of cancelled trips and major delays on some routes.

OC Transpo general manager Alain Mercier says mechanics repaired enough buses Tuesday night to get service back to normal levels for Wednesday, according to a memo sent to city council this morning.

Many of the buses were out-of-service because they were off the road for days because of a reduced schedule over the Christmas break.

Fifty-two buses were out-of-service on Monday; 27 remained out-of-service Tuesday afternoon.

Mercier says the high number of out-of-service buses is believed to be an isolated incident.

However, management is reviewing procedures to make sure a similar situation does not happen again later this winter.
