OC Transpo service might still be disrupted on Wednesday after more than 50 buses went out-of-service earlier this week, resulting in two days of major delays across the city.

Fifty-two buses were out-of-service on Monday; 27 remained out-of-service Tuesday afternoon.

Buses failed to show up for 55 trips on several routes Tuesday morning, including some high-frequency bus routes such as the 95, 96 and 86.

Many of the buses were out-of-service because they were taken off the road for days because of a reduced schedule over the Christmas break.

"In my experience, I've never seen a Monday following a Christmas break where there's been such problems with our service," said Coun. Alex Cullen, chair of Ottawa's transit committee.

"Obviously, we've had these winters before. We've had these cold snaps before, so there may be something else going on here that I'm not aware of yet; but we do need to go and find out what happened so that we don't have a repeat of this situation."

City officials say OC Transpo mechanics will be working around the clock to resolve the situation.
