A new cheese plant, museum and restaurant will be built in St. Albert, Ontario just seven months after a devastating fire destroyed the old factory.
Officials held a sod turning ceremony in St. Albert for the $30 million dollar project.
The new 72 thousand sq.ft cheese plant will include state of the art equipment and technology.
Production will start in the summer of 2014.
St. Albert is a cheese and dairy co-operative which was established in 1894.
One of its most popular products are cheese curds which are used to top poutine.
The Elgin Street Diner in Ottawa says it uses almost 700 pounds of St. Albert cheese curds a week for its poutine dishes.
St. Albert is one hour east of Ottawa.
