Officials are warning residents after another dead bird in eastern Ontario tested positive for the West Nile virus.

A dead Blue Jay in Smiths Falls tested positive for West Nile last week. At least five other birds in eastern Ontario have also tested positive this year.

Health officials say the best way to stay protected is to wear bug repellant with DEET, along with long-sleeved clothing.

Residents are also advised to clear their property of any standing water that can serve as mosquito breeding grounds.

West Nile is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.
