Ottawa police have laid charges against five people after Wednesday afternoon's drug raid at a downtown apartment building that left one man shot by an officer.
Police executed a search warrant on the apartment on the 300 block of Cumberland Street. They seized marijuana, mushrooms, hashish, $1,055 in cash, seven cell phones, five scales, and other assorted trafficking paraphernalia.
Five adults and one minor, all from Ottawa, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking: Glen James Burrell, 36; Daniel Rene David, 23; Santina Ann Dunbar, 18; Ronald Joseph Jesseau, 33; Gilles Andre Gauthier, 45, and a 17-year-old girl who cannot be identified.
The adults were released and will appear in court on July 8 except for Gauthier, who remains in custody for allegedly breaching conditions. He will be in court on Monday.
During the raid a 36-year-old Ottawa man was shot in his right leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was brought to hospital where he underwent surgery.
The shooting marks the fourth time Ottawa police officers have been involved in a shooting in the last six months.
The province's Special Investigations Unit is looking into the incident with four investigators and three forensic officers working on the case.
The SIU is called in whenever police are involved in cases of serious injuries or deaths involving the public.
