The village of Forester's Falls was mourning on Monday after a tragic weekend crash killed three people, including a mother and her 16-year-old daughter.
Shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday, a Ford Ranger truck left Forester's Falls Road near Hwy. 17, drove into a culvert, became airborne, and struck a hydro pole about 30 kilometres north of Renfrew.
The truck's male driver died at the scene, along with the 16-year-old girl.
Her mother later died at Renfrew Victoria Hospital. The woman's 12-year-old son was the only survivor and was reported in stable condition.
All four passengers were wearing their seatbelts.
Police have not released the victims' names. But many in the small Ottawa Valley rafting community knew the driver and his female friend well.
The telephone pole was snapped off," said Tom Applegate, a nearby resident. "It's just a tragedy."
In town, Annie's Gas Stop had a steady stream of locals wondering what happened - and shattered by the loss.
"I was shocked because we really knew them," said Annie Aswal.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, according to police.
