OC Transpo is investigating a small fire aboard a bus from an operator's seat defect that left one driver injured.

Police say officers responded to the fire near Auriga Drive and Antares Drive in Nepean, just west of Hunt Club Road.

OC Transpo said the bus "experienced a defect related to the operators seat" which caused the injuries on the driver.

Ottawa Paramedics told CTV News that they received a call for service on the bus at 8:30 a.m. The driver, an adult male, sustained minor burns and was transported to hospital.

The incident is not criminal in nature and OC Transpo did not provide details on the nature of the seat malfunction.

"The operator sustained a minor injury, was assessed by the Ottawa Paramedic Service on scene, and has been released. There were no further injuries reported. There were five customers on board at the time of the incident," said an emailed statement by Director of Transit Service Delivery and Rail Operations Troy Charter.

"OC Transpo’s Special Constables Unit attended to the scene and supported our emergency service partners who helped gather more information on the incident. OC Transpo is conducting an internal review to determine the cause of the incident."
