Liberal leader Dalton McGuinty slammed the Ontario Tories and their plan to scrap the uploading of costs from cities to the province at an address in Ottawa Wednesday morning.
"The problem is Mr. Hudak will not honour that commitment shortage of $500 million which municipalities will have to find some way to deal with and the easiest and simplest way to do that is to pass it on to taxpayers," said McGuinty.
Currently, the provincial government has an agreement with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to take on some of their spending obligations.
"What I want you to know is that Ontario Liberals are committed to finishing this job and uploading according to the schedule agreed on," McGuinty told a room full of people belonging to Ottawa's business community.
"Cities are suffering because of the downloading," said Erin Kelly with Ottawa's Chamber of Commerce. "We were very happy to hear that today."
McGuinty also pitched his platform on education, health care and the economy.
All three party leaders will have addressed the same crowd by the end of the month.
New Democrat leader Andrew Horwath made her pitch in August.
Progressive Conservative Party leader Tim Hudak will do the same on September 29.
