The latest edition of the widely popular smart phone, the iPhone 5, went on sale Friday worldwide.

Alex Theriault was the first one in line at the Apple store in Rideau Centre. He waited 14 hours before his big purchase, making him one of the first people to own a iPhone 5 in Ottawa.

“It's so much better to be in the lineup for that long. Waiting in the front knowing when you're going to get it,” said Theriault.

Apple expects to ship 10-million iPhone 5’s by the end of the month. The new model work with 4G networks, have a better camera, larger screen, and run faster.

“It's very, very light especially compared to the 4S. I mean it feels really good in the hand,” said Theriault.

“Amazing what we can do with the phone,” said Claude Duford, iPhone owner. “You can ask the weather. You just press a button and ask the weather.”

But there have been recent reports of problems with Apple’s new maps.

“It wasn't the greatest but they are working on it,” said Ian Reed, iPhone owner.

With a report from CTV Ottawa’s John Hua.
