Family of a 25-year-old woman who was fatally struck by an OC Transpo bus in Ottawa's west end has identified her as 25-year-old Victoria Buchanan.
In an exclusive interview with CTV News, Buchanan's mother said she wanted the public to see her pain.
"She was an angel," said mother Kelly Jodoin. "In her essence she was an amazing human being. Everybody she touched, she moved."
Buchanan died Monday at about 7 a.m. She was running to catch the bus after leaving her apartment building at Baseline Road and Rockway Crescent when she slipped and fell.
Buchanan's boyfriend Bojan Svaricek said he witnessed the deadly series of events.
When paramedics arrived, she did not have any vital signs.
Buchanan did not survive being run over by the bus' back wheel.
"I lost someone I really loved, and I don't know how I am going to get her back. I'll never bring her back," said Svaricek.
Svaricek said he believes if the driver had stopped to let them on that maybe the woman he planned to marry would still be alive.
There is no indication from police that the crash was preventable. No charges have been laid.
Still, the tragedy has many talking about the dangers of the stretch of Baseline Road between Centrepointe and Greenbank.
"Very, very sad ...but it's not going to be the last," said witness Shirley McPherson.
Area residents are often seen running for the bus or illegally crossing the street because there is no crosswalk or traffic light at that particular intersection.
A police investigation is ongoing.
