Officials from the Ottawa branch of Canadian Blood Services Ottawa say there is an urgent need for blood donations in the city.

The service has seen a decrease in the amount of donors over the last year. There is no shortage yet but the need to replenish the current supply is urgent.

The agency is especially seeking donations of O-negative, A-negative, and B-negative.

While one in four Ottawa residents are eligible to donate blood, only one in 60 actually do.

The number of active donors in the capital goes down about four percent ever year.

Canadian Blood Services say it needs 300 donors to give blood over the next six weeks in order to have enough supply for the holiday season.
