Montreal police are looking for a murder suspect connected to the body parts mailed to Ottawa on Tuesday.
They said they're looking for 29-year-old Luka Rocco Magnotta, also known as Eric Clinton Newman in connection with this case.
"The suspect and victim knew each other," Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere told reporters. "It isn't linked to organized crime."
A foot sent to Conservative party headquarters and a hand found in the mail in Ottawa Tuesday are linked to a torso found in a Montreal suitcase that same day.
A resident in the building where the torso was found said masked police have been focusing on a unit with a stench of rotting meat.
The resident told The Canadian Press police are showing people pictures of a man, asking questions about any possible connections to the man who lived in that unit.
CTV Montreal said the building's superintendant showed them a room Magnotta had been renting since he moved to Montreal from Toronto.
They said they saw "blood-soaked sheets on bed in a pile, blood stains on the mattress, and a large puddle of dried blood in the fridge."
Neither Canada Post nor its employees are commenting on the findings, except to say they're working with Ottawa police.
Ottawa police said the hand wasn't intended for Conservative Party headquarters but aren't saying where its destination was.
Montreal police have taken the lead on the Ottawa body parts case, although the two departments will continue to work together.
