Ryan Granberg scored the decisive touchdown as the No. 8 Queen's Gaels beat the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 14-10 to advance to the semifinal in Ontario university football playoffs Saturday.

Granberg, who is Canadian university football's leading rusher, scored on a one-yard rush early in the fourth quarter to give Queen's a 14-7 lead.

Up until the touchdown, Queen's had trailed the entire game and all points were posted by the team's two kickers.

Queen's kicker Dan Village hit field goals of 29 yards and 35 yards, while Laurier's Ronald Pfeffer countered with field goals of 11, 17 and 24 yards to conclude the scoring at 10:44 of the fourth quarter.

Both defences stymied each other's offence with the Gaels managing only 379 yards offence while the Golden Hawks put up just 371.

Laurier had several opportunities to blow the game open but failed to convert with two touchdowns being called back on penalties.

Josh Sultana also stopped the Golden Hawks from scoring, intercepting a first-quarter pass from quarterback Shane Kelly in the end zone.

In the other Ontario playoff match, the Windsor Lancers toppled the Ottawa Gee-Gees 50-33 to advance to the semifinals.

In Kingston, Ont., Gaels quarterback Ryan Mitchell completed 23-of-38 pass attempts for 272 yards with no touchdowns.

Kelly meanwhile went 30 for 47 for 307 yards, but was intercepted three times.

The victory earned Queen's a semifinal matchup against the No. 3 McMaster Marauders in Hamilton next week.

Meanwhile in Ottawa, Lancers quarterback Austin Kennedy dominated in the air with five touchdown passes.

Kennedy went 25 for 34 for 429 yards and ran in a TD of his own while connecting with Jordan Brescacin twice in the end zone.

Aaron Colbon kept the Gee-Gees in the game with 354 passing yards, three touchdown completions and one rushing TD.

Windsor plays the No. 4 Western Mustangs in London, Ont., in the semis next week.
