TORONTO - Ontario residents can soon drop off unwanted computers and electronics at more than 100 new sites.

It's part of an industry-funded program to divert computers, TV's, printers and fax machines from landfills.

Some 17 municipalities, select retail chains and Salvation Army thrift stores are now certified to collect junked electronics.

Service at Salvation Army outlets started Wednesday, with other sites to join in soon.

Also starting Wednesday -- the companies that sell electronic products will pay a fee to the program.

Fees will range from 32 cents on computer peripherals to $10 for TV's and $13 for desktop computers.

Companies can choose whether to absorb the cost or pass it on to consumers.
