A jury charged with picking a plan to give Lansdowne Park's urban area a makeover will move forward with a plan to transform the park's front yard into a people place.
A pre-selected jury, made up of city representatives, community groups, urban planners and architects, selected the $68-million plan developed by two Vancouver designers. However, the jury isn't accepting the plan as-is.
The design, known as 'Plan B', will give Lansdowne Park a larger lawn for public events and a water plaza with a fountain that will double as a skating rink in the winter.
Although the design calls for a man-made island in the Rideau Canal and a pedestrian footbridge, the jury is recommending eliminating those features to cut down on costs.
The jury picked the winning design from five submissions that were presented to the public last month.
