The first day of jury selection is over in the murder trial of a man accused of killing an Ottawa police officer in 2009.
Former RCMP officer Kevin Gregson pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Const. Eric Czapnik in front of the Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus on Dec. 29, 2009.
Gregson is also facing a count of robbery after allegedly stealing a car Dec. 28, 2009.
Justice Douglas Rutherford said in court there are three days set aside to pick the 12-peron jury, with 11 chosen on Monday.
Gregson sat in the prisoner's box weating a white dress shirt, listening intently as potential jurors were interviewed.
Czapnik was stabbed to death as he sat in his cruiser outside the hospital doing paperwork in the early morning hours, despite the efforts of nearby paramedics.
The native of Poland was the oldest rookie in the Ottawa Police Service when he joined at age 48 in 2006.

The jury selection will resume on Tuesday.
