Gatineau's new city council will focus its next term on advancing rapid transit, hosting the Quebec Summer Games, and forging a better relationship with municipal politicians in Ottawa.

Mayor Marc Bureau says he wants to use his second term in office to make Gatineau a better place to live.

"We want to become one of the greatest cities in Canada and we are going to work a lot with the City of Ottawa," Bureau said.

The new Gatineau council was sworn into office on Tuesday night. It includes newly minted councillor Stefan Psenak, who was declared the winner in Aylmer after a recount revealed he beat incumbent Frank Therrien by one vote.
