Ottawa Centre MP Paul Dewar has confirmed that he's considering a bid for the leadership of the NDP.

Dewar, who is currently the NDP's foreign affairs critic said he's talking with party members across the country to see how much support he can muster.

So far only two politicians have officially entered the leadership race: Brian Topp, who is president of the NDP, and Romeo Saganash, an MP from Northern Quebec.

A leadership convention will be held in Toronto on March 24 to pick Jack Layton's successor.

Dewar is the son of former Ottawa mayor Marion Dewar. He was elected in 2006 in the riding previously held by NDP leader Ed Broadbent.
