Two people were rushed to hospital Sunday evening after the car they were travelling in struck a cement pole and rolled in the city's east end. Paramedics were called to Innes Road near Blackburn Hamlet just before 7pm where the collision occurred.
Paramedics say both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. An off-duty paramedic who was on his way to work stopped to help until backup arrived.
The 20-year-old driver is in critical condition in hospital. He suffered multiple injuries, including serious head trauma.
The 17-year-old female passenger was also ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics say she was conscious and treated for spinal injuries.
Police are still investigating what may have caused the crash. They say they don’t know whether or not the two were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
