Ottawa city council approved another key vote on the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park Wednesday, voting in favour of rezoning the site for the $300-million project.

"They've heard it for 21 years, they've heard people arguing. Let's get on with it. I think people are ready for action in Ottawa not more of this gabby kind of politics," Mayor Larry O'Brien said Wednesday.

Coun. Clive Doucet, who is a long-time opponent of the deal, told reporters the rezoning plan kills Sylvia Holden Park, which will be replaced by a 17-storey tower.

"They want to basically chop the park in half," Doucet said.

He added the city wants to develop part of the park that is worth money, "and the stuff we don't really want, which happens to be the community park, we'll leave you have."

The next big fight over the redevelopment plan will likely be fought at the Ontario Municipal Board.
