City of Ottawa officials don't like where many residents are storing their garbage cans and green bins.

Changes to the property mainteance bylaw are being proposed that would make it illegal for residents to keep the bins outside in front of their homes.

The City of Ottawa is proposing that all trash cans be kept in a garage, or backyard, but not in the front, and not within 3 meters of a window or door.

Also, as part of this bylaw, indoor furniture won't be allowed to be used outside.

The new rules will be debated at next Thursday's Community and Protective Services Committee meeting.

CTV's Natalie Pierosara will have more on this story tonight at six.
