Two men suffered serious injuries after a head-on crash south of Ottawa Thursday morning.

Ottawa emergency crews were called to Highway 31 south of the village of Winchester around 6 Thursday morning in response to the collision.

Both men were trapped in their respective vehicles.  Ottawa based paramedics joined Stormont Dundas & Glengarry paramedics along with volunteer firefighters from Winchester helped free the men.  An air ambulance from Ottawa was also dispatched.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 23-year-old man, suffered serious multi-system trauma to his head, legs and arms.  He was airlifted to the Ottawa hospital by the air ambulance.  He is listed in stable condition.

The driver of the minivan, a 25-year-old man, suffered head and leg injuries.  He was first taken to the Winchester Hospital and then transferred to the Ottawa Hospital Trauma Unit.  He is listed in critical condition.

An initial Ontario Provincial Police investigation suggests the minivan was travelling northbound when it crossed the centreline and struck the pick-up truck head-on.

Highway 31 remains closed as officers continue to investigate.
