The Ottawa River is now one of 42 heritage rivers in Canada.

Environment minister Catherine McKenna announced this morning that the 590-kilometre Ontario stretch of the Ottawa River has been designated a "Canadian heritage river”.

The federal government is working with the Quebec government to recognize the heritage value of Quebec’s stretch of the Outaouais River.
