An Orléans teenager was automatically sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years after he pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder in the death of his mother.

Chris Gobin was arrested in April 2014 after his mother, Luce Lavertu, was found stabbed to death inside their home.

Gobin had been charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder, according to Gobin’s defence lawyer.
