The Ottawa Police Service Major Crime Section has charged 18-year-old Christopher Gobin with first degree murder.
The victim has been identified as the suspects mother Luce Lavertu. Lavertu was 49 years old.
Police say no further information will be released, as the investigation is ongoing.
Officers responded to the home (on St. Bruno Street) after receiving a 911 call shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2014.
Authorities say Lavertu was found by her husband with no vital signs.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board crisis response team has been called into St. Peter High School, where the teen was a student, to provide counselling support to the other students.
