BELLEVILLE, Ont. -- An eastern Ontario man has been fined $99,000 for illegally constructing a dam and interfering with a watercourse.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says Kevin Strong of Centre Hastings, Ont., north of Belleville, was fined $90,000 for constructing an unauthorized dam, and $9,000 for interfering with a watercourse at Moreland Lake, near Ivanhoe, Ont.
He was also ordered to do restoration work.
The court heard Strong built a dam and pond on his property next to the lake between January 2010 and May 2013.
Ministry conservation officers, in conjunction with Lower Trent Conservation, investigated, and determined the work was done without permits or approvals from an authorized agency.
