A young deer was spotted swimming in the Rideau Canal Friday around noon.
Police called the National Capital Commission and three conservation officers went into action.
The officers were in a Zodiac watercraft and rushed to where the fawn was spotted near the Corkstown footbridge by the University of Ottawa.
NCC officials say a noose was placed around its neck and a blindfold over its eyes so it wouldn't be frightened.
By 2 p.m., the deer was released back into the wild near Anderson Road south-east of the city's urban boundaries.
