Environment Canada is warning a strengthening storm that hit Tennessee Tuesday morning is heading into Ontario and parts of Quebec.
Snowfall, strong winds, freezing rain and ice pellets are all expected in the region.
CTV Ottawa's weather specialist J.J. Clarke says the storm is expected to hit Kingston, Ont. at about 8 or 9 p.m. and will make its way to the Ottawa area at about 11 p.m.
Clarke is advising people to be prepared for up to 25 centimetres to fall on the Ottawa Valley.
The storm is expected to drop mostly freezing rain on communities along the St. Lawrence Seaway and a combination of snow and freezing rain on the National Capital Region.
To help deal with the snow storm, the city of Ottawa is enforcing winter parking restrictions overnight.
John Manconi, surface operations manager for the city of Ottawa, says the City is preparing for the latest winter wallop.
"We've had a lot of snow this year. One perspective is we've had 83 snow days out of our 110 days of winter so far," Manconi told CTV News.
Manconi says the amount of snow and ice this winter is causing more than just snow banks; it's also causing a shortage of salt in the City.
"We do have an issue with salt supply," Manconi said. "We now have two vendors providing us with salt to the City, so we've secured that in the last couple of days."
One of those vendors is selling salt to Ottawa all the way from Chile.
"It is going to cost more money, that's the unfortunate side of things, but we're coping well," Manconi said. "Our (salt) supply branch is well tapped into the North American market."
Along with the extra pile of snow, Manconi says he expects city trucks will have to start widening residential streets again.
"We've done street widening even on the residential streets where there are no sidewalks. If this keeps up we may have to do it again and we are doing that throughout various areas," he said.
While winter comes to a close, Manconi is asking residents for their patience.
"Bare with us. I know it's a long winter. I know it's a lot of shoveling but we're doing our best."
Another storm system is expected to hit the region on Saturday.
