KINGSTON, Ont. -- Police say a Kingston, Ont., man is facing numerous charges after an alleged violent domestic assault resulted in a standoff with police on Tuesday.
They say they were called to a report of a domestic assault shortly before noon Tuesday and were met by a woman who had significant injuries.
Police say they had reason to believe the woman was assaulted by somebody inside the house, and when officers approached the house, a man carrying a kitchen knife refused to open the door.
They say officers from the emergency response unit, school resource officers and a crisis negotiator were all called to the scene.
A man was arrested at about 3:15 p.m., and faces eight charges related to the incident, including two counts of assault with a weapon. He remains in custody and will appear in court Nov. 20.
Police say they are continuing to investigate, and are holding the house as a crime scene while they wait for a search warrant.
