A study commissioned by the City of Ottawa concludes Bayview Yards near Lebreton Flats and Carleton University are the best locations for a new sports stadium.

The study ranked 23 sites according to several factors, including land, location and access to public transit.

The report comes as city council begins debate on two separate bids to build a new sports stadium in the city.

One of the proposals is spearheaded by Ottawa 67's owner Jeff Hunt, who is looking to bring CFL football back to Lansdowne Park.

The other bid is backed by Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, who wants to bring Major League Soccer to the capital by building a soccer stadium near Scotiabank Place in Kanata.

Council is expected to make a final decision on the bids in late April.
