Another police service in the region will soon have access to the overdose-reversing drug Naloxone.
Smiths Falls police chief Mark MacGillivray says in a statement his officers will be trained on how to administer the Narcan nasal spray.
He expects officers will be trained and on the road with the spray in a couple of weeks.
“Every second counts and we want to be in a position to help” says MacGillivray. “We hope we never have to use it, but we need to be prepared, equipped and trained”.
MacGillivray says with the opioid crisis spreading, the SFPS is taking "this proactive step to keep its officers and members of the community safe."
The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark Health Unit is providing training to all of the officers.
