Police have charged a 29-year-old Ottawa man for robbery and assault with a weapon after a west-end convenience store was held up over the weekend.

Edward Grosse, who was wanted on outstanding warrants in Ontario and B.C., was arrested following a short foot chase early Sunday morning.

Police say Grosse entered Food Frenz on Carling Avenue just after 3 a.m. and used a knife to hold up the lone clerk working the overnight shift.

Although no injuries were reported, police say an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen and has since been recovered.

The weekend robbery marks the sixth time the convenience store was robbed in the past month.

Grosse is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Police say he is only charged with the most recent robbery.

In the meantime, police say they will continue to keep a close watch on the store in an effort to prevent any future incidents.

Anyone with information about the string of robberies targeting Food Frenz is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222 ext. 5492 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS.
