Commuters who rely on public transit are being warned about a potential strike by OC Transpo workers, as more than 2,000 bus drivers, dispatchers and maintenance staff prepare for a strike vote on Wednesday.
Union representatives say wages are the key issue at the root of the dispute.
Workers have been without a contract sine April and the union says it expects an overwhelming mandate to walk off the job as early as Dec. 23. If the drivers vote to strike, the union says it will give the city 72 hours notice.
Meanwhile, the union representing about 150 OC Transpo special constables, supervisors and maintenance staff has already voted to walk off the job. The workers warn if the city doesn't meet their demands on wages, benefits and seniority, they could also strike as early as Dec. 23.
Mayor Larry O'Brien is expected to call a special council meeting to discuss the issue on Thursday.
