CTV Ottawa has learned Nortel is moving ahead with more job cuts at its Ottawa headquarters.
Two months ago, Nortel said 2,100 positions would be cut company-wide and another 1,000 jobs would move offshore.
The company confirms it has reached a deal with IBM to take over what's called "product verification" of software, work that had previously been outsourced to a dozen firms around the world.
The deal is expected to result in even more tech jobs moving offshore.
A Nortel spokesperson would not say how many jobs are involved or how many people in Ottawa will be affected.
Nortel has cut 5,000 jobs in the last few years. The company recently reported a year-end loss and an overall drop in revenue and is currently mid-way through a five-year turnaround process.
Nortel CEO Mike Zafirovski has previously said the underlying trends in the industry are good for the company and insists Nortel is in better fiscal shape than its competitors.
