CTV Ottawa has learned a Montreal-based developer has expressed interest in submitting a bid to redevelop Lansdowne Park in Ottawa's Glebe neighbourhood.

Broccolini Construction has written to Ottawa Mayor Larry O'Brien asking for a chance to compete in a design competition at Lansdowne Park. The company said their bid would include residential development, sports facilities, green space and retail and commercial areas.

The proposal comes as the City of Ottawa continues to review the "Lansdowne Live" plan submitted by local developers Roger Greenberg, Bill Shenkman and John Ruddy last month.

"While we fully respect and acknowledge the unsolicited submission to city staff last month, we believe the City of Ottawa needs to follow a comprehensive and efficiently managed process to fully evaluate all options regarding the future redevelopment of Lansdowne Park for the ultimate benefit for all citizens of Ottawa," wrote Derek Howe, Broccolini's business development manager.

The Lansdowne Live plan, which promises to redevelop the area into a "people place," includes a world class sports and entertainment stadium, a refurbished arena, aquarium, exhibition space, an amphitheatre, formal gardens and ponds, shopping, a home for the Farmer's Market and a new hotel.

The group behind the plan has said if the city decided to resume its open design competition for Lansdowne Park, they would withdraw their proposal.

City council is expected to deal with the issue on Wednesday.
