A 27-year-old man who suffered severe burns during a standoff with police north of Cornwall on Monday, has been transported to a Quebec City hospital for specialized treatment.
The man experienced life-threatening injuries after he was injured in an explosion, which also severely burned two Ontario Provincial Police officers who remain in hospital. Two other police officers were also treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
Ontario Provincial Police say the explosion happened after officers responded to a 911 call to deal with a suicidal male who was allegedly threatening to burn down a house on Beaverbrook Road near Martintown.
When police entered the home to deal with the suspect, an explosion ensued, engulfing the house in flames while the man and two officers were inside.
The Special Investigation Unit, which investigates whenever police are involved in serious injuries or deaths, continues to probe the incident.
