KINGSTON, Ont. -- Police in Kingston, Ont., say a 35-year-old local man has been charged after allegedly breaking into a fenced-in compound to steal bags of chips, dip and salsa.

They say officers responded to a call in an industrial area at about 2:15 a.m. today for a report of three suspicious people.

Police say officers found a man by a hole in the fence on a property carrying wire cutters, a ratchet and socket, and a garbage bag full of chips, dip and salsa.

Officials say a search of the compound revealed the accused had stolen the items from a dumpster.

They say the accused was charged with break and enter, theft, and possession of break-in tools.

He is in custody until his bail hearing scheduled for Friday.
