TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty says 900 more Ontario schools will start offering full-day kindergarten in 2012.
That fall, the government estimates about 120,000 children -- almost half of the province's four- and five-year-olds -- will be in school full time.
The Liberals, who are heading into an election on Oct. 6, have promised to extend all-day kindergarten to all elementary schools by September 2014.
The Progressive Conservatives say they don't believe McGuinty will reach his goal.
They say a Tory government would look at what Ontario families can afford before agreeing to expand the program.
Conservative critic Jim Wilson says many communities don't have the facilities for the program, and the government is facing about a billion dollars in renovation costs.
