The newly implemented Harmonized Sales Tax brought Ottawa gas prices up by about eight to 10 cents, and caused long lineups at regional gas stations as people rushed to fill their tanks below the deadline.

There is now an HST of 13 cents instead of the five cents of federal tax charged beforehand.

On Thursday, gas prices ranged from a low of 91.9 cents to 102.5 cents at gas stations around Ottawa.

The pain is not only being felt at the pumps. The price of natural gas for home heating will also be affected by the HST.
