Grief-stricken friends of a teen shot and killed in his west-end rental home early Monday morning gathered at the crime scene as they tried to come to terms with their friend's sudden death.
The 19-year-old victim was identified by friends as Michael Swan, whose Moodie Drive home was broken into at about 1 a.m.
"The 911 call came in as a home invasion; it turned out to be a homicide," said Const. J.P. Vincelette.
The victim, who was shot during the break-in, was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.
However, neighbours in the area say they didn't hear anything unusual prior to the killing.
"In the winter, you have your doors and windows closed, so you don't hear a lot," said Gary Miller.
"But at the same time, we've heard gunshots out here before from hunters," added Donna Wolf. "So, I wouldn't have thought anything of it."
Police were quick to arrest three male suspects in connection with the case. The trio was apprehended on Highway 401, 15 kilometres east of Gananoque on Monday morning.
Police will not identify any of the suspects, nor will they say if charges will be laid. However, media reports suggest the suspects are from Toronto and are known to police.
Still, Ottawa police are remaining tight-lipped about the city's third homicide of the year.
"Obviously, as the investigation goes on, more light will be shed on what happened inside the home, and brought this tragedy to us," Vincelette told CTV Ottawa on Monday.
There were three home invasions reported in the capital overnight. At this point, police don't know if the incidents are related.
