Several Ottawa neighbourhoods are at risk of flooding after flood warnings were issued for parts of the region.

With warm temperatures and rain in the forecast, some areas along the Rideau River could rise to water levels similar to the 1970s and the spring of 1993.

"At this time with the forecast we have there is the possibility that a what we call a one in ten year flood could occur," said Patrick Larson of the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority says some of the most flood vulnerable communities are New Edinburgh, Old Ottawa East and Old Ottawa South.

"They should be sure to have a sump pump that's working if they do have a basement and there is some history of basement seepage," Larson told CTV News.

City crews were working Tuesday to remove the snow from Brittania, a low-lying community in Ottawa's west end.

"Since 1950, we've had about six occasions here where this area has been flooded and we're very close to that level," said Ottawa Councillor Alex Cullen.

City officials say residents who notice water levels building up on roads or around their homes should call the city's hotline at 311.

Although water levels have gone up more than 1.5 feet since Thursday, officials say the flood threat is not yet imminent.
