Mild temperatures and rainfall has heightened the flood alert in the region.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is keeping a close watch on the Rideau River between Kars and Burrit's Rapids during this year's spring thaw.

The area has been prone to flooding in past years.

While waterways continue to swell, officials say most of the rivers and streams in the region won't be near flood levels for at least the next week.

Ottawa city officials are set to outline their flood strategy Wednesday.
