The 8-year-old girl who died after an incident in a Kanata wave pool last weekend was remembered Saturday under heavy grey skies.
Edine Ilunga loved Hannah Montana and wanted to be a doctor.
More than 100 people packed a chapel to eulogize the Grade 3 student, forcing some to watch the two-hour service in hallways on closed-circuit television screens.
"She was so amazing. She was always smiling," said a family friend.
"She treated everyone with tenderness and sweetness," said her teacher.
Edine's friend Rebecca called her a "diamond in the sky."
Edine attended a friend's birthday party at the Kanata Leisure Centre last Saturday. Lifeguards found her floating in the water just before 8 p.m. She later died in hospital.
Full autopsy results will take at least a week, though it's believed she drowned.
Edine's father Edward earlier told CTV Ottawa that: "I wish she was here. We loved her ... she was also a source of strength."
