CTV's Telethon for CHEO was a record-setter for the second straight year, beating the previous high by nearly $200,000.
The 26th CHEO Telethon on CTV Ottawa raised $6,175,843, the highest ever recorded in the event's 26-year history.
Individual callers, businesses, and community organizations all pitched in with donations this weekend during the 24-hour telethon. Cabinet minister, MPs, parents, and everyone in between answered phones at Nortel's Carling Campus.
Last year's telethon had broken the previous record by raising $5,984,776 for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
In total, the telethon has raised more than $60 million since 1984.
The money helps fund research, purchase new equipment, train staff, create a more child- and youth-friendly environment, enhance the paediatric nature of the hospital, and assist families in crisis.
