Ottawa is about to be blanketed by 15 cm of snow if Environment Canada's predictions are correct.

The federal weather forecaster released an alert saying the winter weather Ontarians have been waiting for is about to be delivered.

Mother Nature is set to drop off between two and four centimetres of snow for much of eastern Ontario Thursday. There is a chance it will intensify Friday, bringing an additional 10 cm to the area.

But first, those in the Ottawa region should brace themselves for the risk of freezing rain expected Wednesday night.

Much of the province can thank two storm systems moving in from the U.S. for what could likely be winter's full-fledged arrival.

So far, Environment Canada has not issued a weather warning for the Ottawa area but that could change closer to the weekend.
