Munster Elementary will not be holding class next school year.

At a special board meeting on Tuesday night, trustees with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board voted in favour of redirecting students to one of two nearby schools for September.

Current Munster students will have their choice of attending either A. Lorne Cassidy Elementary or Richmond Public school. Younger siblings will also be given a one-time option to attend either school.

According to the board, Munster would have had one junior and senior kindergarten class, a grade one to three triple split class and a grade three to five split class next school year. In a statement, the board says that was "deemed not sufficient to provide students with an enriched educational experience."

The school will remain open to community use for the time being.
