The owners of a new Star Wars themed bar in Ottawa held its grand opening on Sunday.
The venue, called the Cantina, is named after a fictional bar in the iconic series.
“The Cantina is actually where Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi first meet Han Solo and it’s a bar and it’s probably one of the best scenes in the world,” said Jeff St.Pierre, co-owner at the Cantina.
It is a place where fans like Daniel Everett can come to play board games, watch movies, and talk Star Wars.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for it. I saw it like when they first announced it. I was waiting,” said Everett, who came dressed up as Han Solo.
The room is painted brown to represent the desert on Tatooine. The walls are covered in posters and photos from the saga.
“This is one of the behind the scene shots of Frank Oz, puppeteering Yoda and speaking with him, with his voice, and someone captured that,” said St. Pierre, pointing at the photo.
The owners are also serving drinks based on the series, like Bantha Milk, a blue-coloured liquid produced by a female bantha’s mammary glands.
With the seventh installment in the Star Wars series ‘The Force Awakens’ coming out in December, St.Pierre said the time to open the bar, was now.
“Everybody loves Star Wars,” he said. “The whole epic space opera, good guy versus bad guy, the struggle of good versus evil type thing going on and then as you grow up it stays with you and with the new movies coming out shortly, it was just relevant.
Just next door, the same owners have another games stores called the Kessel Run. They are hopeful one day they can connect the two.
The idea, sounds like more good news for fans and gamers.
“I think it’s cool, it gives us a chance to get our internal 'geekiness' out,” said another guest.
The Cantina is located at 2803 St. Joseph Blvd. in Orléans.
