Just in time for the Thanksgiving long weekend, drivers in the Ottawa area have something to be thankful for.

Gas prices are dropping to the lowest they've been in more than two years.

According to OttawaGasPrices.com, on Friday night, the Costco in Nepean was selling gas at $111.9/litre.

On Friday night, the average price of gas in Ottawa was $119.2 and falling.

Earlier in the day, an Ultramar station at Hunt Club and Hawthorne roads was selling its gas for 99 cents a litre.

Gas price expert Dan McTeague of Tomorrow’s Gas Prices Today, says those prices will fall even lower.

“There is a 2 cent a litre decrease which should kick in right about now across most stations...If you don’t like $1.17, it will be $1.15, if you don’t like $1.15, wait until Sunday, when we could see prices as low as $1.11 to $1.13,” he said.

McTeague says lower worldwide demand, a weaker Canadian dollar, and more oil production are all contributing to the drop at the pumps.

“The world is now awash in crude, and in order to make sure you sell your products, you're going to have to bring those prices down dramatically.”
