The University of Ottawa confirms two of their students were killed in a road accident on Thursday in Vaudreuil-Dorion at 10:30p.m.

The students have been identified as twenty-year-old Karina Joly and twenty-three-year-old Ted Shen. Both students are in 3rd year Civil Law, a small faculty of around 200 students.

“Karina had just been elected to the Faculty Council and they had first meeting this last Tuesday," said  Sebastien Grammond, Dean of Civil Law. “I remember her face vividly.”

According to the Sûreté du Québec, Shen drove into oncoming traffic on Highway 40.

Police say alcohol did not play a factor in the crash.

The two young students come from the Anjou district in Montreal.

The University will hold a ceremony later next week.
